Route definition

The route follows the change boundary.

These are change-control levels. Choose the route by the requested change, the evidence needed to validate it and the party approving release.

Customization boundary

What Can Be Customized

Branding: logo, packaging, manuals and visual identity. Product Configuration: language, accessories, power options, lock body options and regional configuration. Software and Interface: UI elements, preloaded settings and supported integration requirements, subject to model capability. Project Support: product matching, samples, documentation and technical communication for qualified projects.

Approved product platform

Select a current model, version, finish and accessory set without changing product design.

Define first

Commercial and delivery fit

Review model, order quantity, destination, required documents and target dispatch window.

MOQ baseline

Standard supply starts at 200 units

This is the standard-supply starting quantity; final commercial scope and delivery are agreed for the selected configuration and written quotation.

Configuration
Scope

Configure an existing platform

Review branding, packaging, language, interface and approved firmware settings by model.

Define first

Change control

Define the approved change boundary, sample requirement and market-document scope.

MOQ baseline

OEM/private label starts at 500 units

This is the OEM/private-label starting quantity; final scope, timing and documentation follow the approved configuration and written quotation.

Development
Scope

Develop against a product brief

Assess new mechanical, electronics, firmware or system requirements against the intended use.

Define first

Feasibility and project controls

Define the development scope, validation method, sample plan, ownership terms and document set.

MOQ baseline

ODM starts at 1,000 units

This is the ODM starting quantity; project timing is established after feasibility and scope are agreed in writing.

Manufacturing control gates

Four gates from brief to production release.

Each gate records the inputs, evidence and approval required before the next production decision.

01 · PROJECT BRIEF

Record the baseline

State the product, destination, quantity range, application and fixed requirements.

02 · FEASIBILITY REVIEW

Assess the change

Review the technical, document and commercial implications of the requested route.

03 · VALIDATION

Review the evidence

Validate the agreed sample, configuration or technical record against the approved scope.

04 · PRODUCTION RELEASE

Authorize production

Release the approved configuration, documents and production requirements for scheduling.

Project intake

Provide the inputs that shape the manufacturing plan.

Provide the product application, proposed change and destination. Commercial and engineering teams can then review one set of requirements before selecting a route, sample or document set. Use the OEM/ODM buyer FAQ for sourcing questions, or review project reference formats before sending a comparable brief.

OEM/ODM decision brief: change boundary, sample gates and release evidence

An OEM/ODM programme is comparable when standard supply, branding and engineering change are separated. The decision should show the model, change owner, sample gate, document set and release quantity.

Checks before shortlisting

  1. Standard supply, OEM branding and ODM engineering are written as different change boundaries.
  2. Samples are quoted separately from the order routes: standard supply from 200 units, OEM or private label from 500 and ODM from 1,000.
  3. Tuya, Zigbee, app, API and cloud ownership are separated from artwork and packaging.
  4. CE, RED, FCC and ISO 9001 evidence is linked to SKU, radio module, revision and destination.
  5. Tooling, NRE, firmware, API, artwork, manual and data exit each have an owner.
  6. A 2026 release date is recorded with the revision and the test that must be repeated.

Implementation and handover

  1. Write the change brief and select a known model before discussing custom work.
  2. Run a 1-sample engineering gate for fit, interface, firmware and document scope.
  3. Run a pilot gate with packaging, label, app invitation, acceptance and service evidence.
  4. Freeze the production revision, ownership, market file and repeat-order assumptions.
  5. Keep the release pack with the quotation so a later batch can be compared to the same scope.

Risks to resolve before supply

  • Calling a private label an ODM programme can create unpriced tooling and firmware work.
  • Quantity bands without a selected model can be mistaken for a guaranteed MOQ.
  • A market certificate tied to one radio or firmware revision may not cover a later change.
  • Undefined app or data ownership makes post-sale exit and support difficult.

Before requesting a quote

Choose the supply route only when change depth, sample gates, quantity, evidence and ownership are written in one release brief. Keep the model page and RFQ record together. Share the selected model, configuration and destination market through the project RFQ route.

FAQ

OEM & ODM programme questions

Use these answers for planning. The named model, destination, approved scope and written quotation control the final commercial terms.

OEM/private-label configuration applies approved branding, packaging or selected software changes to an existing product platform. ODM covers deeper mechanical, electronic, firmware or system changes and requires feasibility, validation and written change control.

Standard supply starts at 200 units, OEM branding starts at 500 units and ODM development starts at 1,000 units. The selected model, configuration, destination and written quotation determine the final terms.

Timing is established after the model, change boundary, sample or validation gates, component availability, destination documents and production plan are reviewed. The quotation should separate development, sample approval, production and transit assumptions.

OEM/private-label configuration can include approved logo, packaging, language, interface and firmware settings by model. The available scope, sample requirement and document route are reviewed before quotation; deeper hardware or system changes move to feasibility review.

Certification scope depends on the final hardware, radio functions, firmware, brand role, importer route and destination market. Existing reports are matched to the supplied configuration; new or changed hardware may require additional testing, documents or labeling review.

IP ownership, tooling, firmware, brand assets and any territory terms are recorded in the OEM agreement before production. The agreed ownership boundary depends on the route, requested change and who funds the tooling or development.

The quality plan should identify incoming inspection, in-process checks, functional tests, final inspection, records, nonconformance handling and any third-party inspection. The applicable method and evidence are agreed for the selected model and order scope before production release.

Shipping method, production timing and trade terms depend on the selected model, order scope, destination and production plan. Share your target country, estimated volume and required timeline so the applicable route can be reviewed before quotation.
