Short answer: PoE is usually stronger for structured new-build or commercial networks where one cable carries power and data. Wi-Fi can reduce cabling for suitable endpoints, but coverage, power and support ownership must be proven at the site.
Compare the conditions
- PoE: predictable power, wired backhaul and easier central network policy.
- Wi-Fi: less cabling at the endpoint, but more dependence on coverage, roaming and local power.
- Retrofit: verify existing cable and access to power before choosing either route.
Test before rollout
Check the furthest endpoint, simultaneous calls, door-release response, reboot recovery and handover documentation. Include the network owner in the acceptance test.
